Purpose of the role:

This position exists to provide technical support and technical skills in the implementation, commissioning and maintenance of the control system network.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Act as first responder to network or fiber optic related problems,
• Conduct reliability analyses on control system network,
• Implement new network solutions and improve resilience of the current network environment,
• Undertake data network fault investigations on the control system network utilising information from multiple sources e.g. profitrace,
• Perform fiber tests with OTDR’s, light source and meters.
• Perform installation of fiber optic equipment and patch panels.
• Perform installation of network equipment e.g. Scalance switches, repeaters, and OLM’s.
• Generate and update network drawings,
• Perform fiber splicing with aid of Fusion splicer
• Any other duties as directed by the Supervisor

Experience​ & Qualifications & Skills:

• Grade 12 Certificate.
• Diploma in Computer Engineering or related qualification.
• 2+ years Fibre Optic experience.
• 3+ years control system network experience
• 3+ years of full-time experience in a similar position
• Troubleshooting ability on control system network and fiber networks,
• Understanding of communication protocols for Profibus-DP, Profibus-PA, and Industrial Ethernet,
• Understanding of Siemens network components e.g. Repeater, diagnostic repeater, Scalances and terminating resistor units,
• Practical skill in Profibus DP and PA installations including network best practises,
• Must be able to use profitrace for fault finding on Profibus networks,
• Understanding of fiber optic installation, testing and fault finding,
