Purpose of Role
Reporting to the Mine Systems Shift Supervisor, the position is responsible for assisting in implementation of preventive and responsive electrical maintenance of mine technical systems in the mining area, to ensure maximum operational performance is achieved in a safe and cost effective manner while ensuring compliance with relevant procedures, polices, legal requirements and consent conditions.
Specific Job Responsibility
Adhere to the company’s planned and preventive maintenance schedules and procedures.
Respond to unplanned breakdowns when on duty timeously.
Effectively maintain and repair electrical systems on diesel propelled mining equipment.
Report all safety incidents immediately to the Supervisor.
Maintain the correct and safe usage of all hand tools and company property within the section.
Report all defective tools, record and control all replacement of tools.
Any other duties as directed by the Mine Systems Shift Supervisor.
Provide technical support and fault management to the production and Maintenance teams.
Monitor daily mesh network, two-way radio network, modular and collision avoidance operations status.
Mining systems auditing and testing after installation.
Resolve problems escalated from Dispatch team (1st line and 2nd line fault clearance).
Escalate problems to OEM or vendors if required.
Participate in 10-5 duty roster and if need be a standby/call out roster.
Daily implementation of changes on mine systems and during rollout planned projects.
Successful first time resolution on modular hardware related queries.
Prepare instructions for configuration changes.
To be able to configure and test two-way hand held and mobile radios for the mine.
To be involved in Planning & implementing Change control including firmware upgrades on mining systems.
Provide technical support on mobile equipment in the PIT or active mining environment.
Perform periodic configuration audits for the all the mining systems, e.g. fatigue management system.
Design and participate in regular preventive maintenance activities.
Advice the mine on technology issues when needed.
Experience & Qualifications
Knowledge in Basic First Aid and Basic Health and Safety
1 to 3 years’ experience with mine technical systems such as Minecare and Modular, Rajant networks, Motorolla 2-way radio systems, geo-positioning systems. Experience in Tyresense and Caterpillar Driver Safety Systems is an added advantage.
1 to 3 years’ experience with TCP/IP, DNS, SNMP; GSM, 3G (HSDPA etc.); Test procedures and Quality assurance; PCs and Networking.
SQL and Microsoft Access and Office experience.
Industry experience on computer networks technologies.
Full grade twelve (12) certificate
Diploma or higher in Telecommunication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, IT, or Data Science.
Valid Driver’s license
Industry certifications e.g. Microsoft, Cisco, Juniper, Fortigate, Motorola, Rajant etc.

Manage and maintain communication flow on escalated support calls.
Excellent skills and knowledge of all related network elements including related test instruments / tools.
Knowledge of two-way radio frequency operations / configuration / parameters.
Accuracy and quality when performing routine activities.
Computer Literate, Microsoft products: Outlook, Office suite, Internet.
Willingness to work standby and as when needed.

Industry hardware experience on mining fleet management systems (FMS) e.g. Modular, Wenco, etc.

Knowledge and or experience on Mesh network Rajant equipment.
Industry experience in Transmission or point to point networks.
