Overall Job Purpose :

The role involves advising the environmental management team, middle management and employees on environmental management requirements develop and implement procedures and management plans and liaison with government on environmental management performance and monitoring requirements.

Specific Job Responsibility

• Preparation and implementation of the monitoring plan and respective procedures/forms and technical instructions
• Schedule and conduct systematic monitoring of possible pollutants by monitoring air quality, climate, surface & ground water, noise, radiation, vibration as scheduled.
• Ensure daily, weekly, monthly and annual update of monitoring information management databases to each specified frequency.
• Ensure calibration of all environmental monitoring equipment are performed for both internal and external equipment and ensure proper maintenance and record keeping. This entails good maintenance and duty of care for all monitoring equipment.
• Liaison with site and third party laboratories for required service delivery.
• Ensure proper maintenance of monitoring sites such as weather stations and effluent sampling points.
• Coordination of monitoring team to ensure timely implementation of scheduled activities and analysis of results.
• Timely procurement of monitoring equipment and consumables such as calibration and storage solutions.
• Communication of critical monitoring results and significant changes.
• Perform any other duties assigned to by supervisor.

• Must be able to demonstrate Environmental law and compliance requirements
• Environmental management in general
• Knowledge and experience with Environmental Management System (EMS).

Experience required to perform in this job

• At least 3 years’ experience in environmental management.
• Relevant experience in the mining industry
• Valid experience in the same field

Qualifications

• Full Grade twelve certificate.
• At least a Bachelor of Science/Engineering in a relevant field and minimum of 3 years’ experience in environmental management. Maturity, hands-on attitude, self-supervision, team spirit and proactivity are key attributes for the job.
• A valid driving licence is required.
• Must be Computer Literate
