Job Description

A company in the consulting industry is looking for an accountant to fill up the position of an Assistant Accountant. The Accountant will provide support to the Accountant(s) by helping to update and maintain accurate financial records, process receipts and sales transactions as well as assist in preparation of management reports for both internal and external purposes. He or she will also assist with all account reconciliations on a periodic basis, as well as ensure the Company is compliant with all relevant statutory authorities.



  1. Posting of sales transactions as well as other receipts for the Company on the accounting package
  2. Preparation of all sales invoices for the Company
  3. Maintenance and follow up on outstanding Company receivables
  4. Assist in the maintenance of an accurate fixed assets register
  5. Assist in the reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis
  6. Assist in the preparation of the monthly management accounts
  7. Assist in the preparation of annual financial statements for the Company
  8. Prepare all manual journal entries on a monthly basis
  9. Raising of payments and petty cash vouchers for processing after inspecting and verifying support documents such as invoices, delivery notes and receipts.
  10. Posting of transactions and payments in the accounting system to the respective ledger accounts.
  11. Assist in the monthly preparation and submission of statutory returns for ZRA, NAPSA and other regulators.
  12. Maintain complete and accurate filing system to support safe retention of all Company financial records
  13. Assist in the preparation of the monthly payroll for all employees
  14. Maintain an accurate and up to date cashbook on a daily basis
  15. Maintain an accurate and up to date petty cash float system
  16. Reconciliation of supplier and receivable accounts at the end of the month
  17. Monitoring and timely reconciliation of staff advances
  18. Assist with provision of support documentation requested for by the Company external stakeholders
  19. Any other duties as assigned by the Accountant(s).



  1. Reports to:  Accountants

Qualifications and experience

  1. Grade 12 school certificate
  2. Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration
  3. Professional certifications such as ACCA level 2 or CA Zambia Application Level
  4. Minimum of 2 years work experience in a similar position.
